What to do on Sunday ...

Wondering what to do on Sunday in Bordeaux? You want a relaxing, quiet day... But at the same time you want to go out! You're in luck : you are in Bordeaux, a dynamic city where you never get bored... The Bordeaux Gironde Guide has selected the coolest outings for you to keep busy on Sundays, to clear your head and refuel before attacking a new week. We have concocted a hell of a program of activities to make the most of your Sunday, whatever the weather...

Find good products in a market

We start the day early and we go for a walk on a market to do good business... It is a meeting place with local producers and artisans, but you will also find all kinds of products from around the world: spices, fruits and vegetables…, to make amazing culinary associations! Here are the Sunday markets in Bordeaux:

  • The Pey-Berland market is a very traditional market, in a magnificent setting since it is located on the Place Pey-Berland, between the tower and the cathedral.
  • The Capuchin market, nicknamed the “belly of Bordeaux” is a large covered and open-air market which is held from Tuesday to Sunday.
  • The Pouyanne market welcomes food and regional producers.
  • The Marie Brizard market also offers local food products.
  • The Quais market (Quai des Chartrons), a very friendly market in the bargain hunters district.
  • The itinerant point of the place René Maran and the gourmet point Michel Suffran (rue Lagrange), are small markets with a few traders, for repairs on Sundays.

Les Halles de Bacalan (fr) are also open on Sundays, perfect for a meal with friends where everyone eats what they want.

If you are more into antiques and beautiful objects, go to the Sunday Brocante in Saint-Michel.

After the market, head to Place Saint Pierre near the Garonne to enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal. Open from Wednesday to Sunday, La Pénate Bistrot is a friendly restaurant serving simple, home-cooked food. Take a seat on the terrace and order with your eyes closed, and you'll be able to enjoy well-balanced recipes while watching the bustle of life in the district.

  • On the famous rue Sainte-Catherine: Galeries Lafayettes, FNAC, the shops on the Promenade Sainte-Catherine (between rue Sainte-Catherine, rue Porte Dijeaux and rue Guiraude) and many other shops...
  • On the Quai des Chartrons, all the Bord'eau village outlets welcome you from Tuesday to Sunday.

Shopping
Shopping is fun on Sundays too, but not too early...

Mix up a good little dish or taste good regional products

Have you found lots of good local products from the producers? It's time to put yourself in the kitchen to simmer a good little dish.

If you are lacking inspiration, we have made you a selection of 16 Bordeaux and Gironde specialties to taste absolutely. Now that you are tempted, we reveal some good recipes from Gironde cuisine.

Isn't spending hours in the kitchen really your thing? No problem, put away your apron and go to the restaurant… To find the right address, here is our directory of restaurants in Bordeaux.

Prime rib
Prime rib Bazas beef, a tasty specialty to try at home (prime rib is a treat) or at the restaurant!

A sports activity

After a good meal, nothing better than a little activity to eliminate. To motivate you, we offer you 5 sports ideas:

  • Go skate at the Skate Park in Darwin or in the Chartrons district.
  • Learn to surf! The new concept of the Wave Surf Café (fr) allows you to surf on an artificial wave, in a bar, that's unusual! You can discover or improve your bodyboard or surf, accompanied or not, and after, we compare the performances on the big screen, sipping a cocktail...

  • Goodlock Escape (fr) has two rooms and two very opposed universes: an investigation in a dark chapel or a very drunken party in a PMU!

A family outing to please the children

Keeping children busy on Sundays is a weekly challenge… How do you surprise them, make them happy and allow them to let off steam? We offer you some cool and funny ideas to please the whole family:

  • At the gates of Bordeaux, the Pessac Zoo. The discovery of wildlife always sparkles the eyes of our young and old.
  • Walk on water! On the Place de la Bourse, you can walk on the reflecting pool… A work of art that will delight children. The setting is ideal to immortalize these good moments of laughter, don't forget your camera!
  • To interest children in history and heritage, the tourist office offers treasure hunts, treasure hunts and heritage rallies. They are classified by district or by theme on the Bordeaux-Tourisme website (fr).
  • Also think about geocaching puzzles with Terra Aventura, it's free and available throughout Aquitaine.
