    • Third Grand Cru Classé 1855 of Margaux , Château Desmirail benefits from an exceptional location in the heart of the commune of Margaux-Cantenac, on the edge of the famous “route des Châteaux”.

Denis Lurton , now at the head of the property, continues the rich legacy of his father Lucien Lurton, while taking great care in the development of this Grand Cru.

The estate's vines extend over around forty hectares, spread over three terroirs, each of which brings its own character to the Château's wines : Margaux-Cantenac, Soussans and Arsac.

Château Desmirail is a grape variety that is ideal for the Médoc terroir : 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, synonymous with structure and longevity, 40% Merlot, which brings its smoothness, and 10% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot which complete the range of grape varieties.

Since the 2018 vintage, the vineyard has been cultivated with respect for the environment according to the principles of sustainable agriculture. The teams are continuously working on reflecting on and adapting the methods used to address ecological issues.

For several decades, the estate has banned all chemical weeding and insecticides, the soils are worked with a plow and the harvests are carried out manually, plot by plot for better respect for the environment.

Château Desmirail also offers elegant and modern wines that reflect the Margaux style, wines that can be enjoyed both young, on the fruit , and after years of aging in its complexity. Château Desmirail wines are the result of a strict selection and highly privileged breeding: vinification is carried out with modern tools, in wooden and stainless steel vats. The choice of traditional vinification is expressed by a gentle and measured extraction, adapted according to the grape varieties.

Since 2010, Denis Lurton has opened the pink marble portal to visitors to discover the wine of Château Desmirail and its architectural heritage , made up of the elegant chartreuse of 18th century renovated, or even the 19th century Médoc vat room.

The property now offers various reception programs and thematic visits.

Since 2019, it has also been possible to enjoy rides in a horse-drawn carriage pulled by Iris, the estate 's favourite mare.

The Château is the winner of Best of Wine Tourism 2024 in the “Architecture and landscapes” category.

Open 7 days a week from May to October

I am rating based only on my booked experience, the walk of the chateau. The actual service we paid for, was to be handed over a qr code so that we would access a website with the map of the chateau's vineyards. The English version of the interactive map was malfunctioning and the videos wouldn't load. The signal was very weak and constantly disconnected from the map. There were no available printed maps for us and no intention from the chateau employees to assist or make it right to us in any way. They only confirmed that "sadly, the signal is not so good". The walk around the village and vineyards was nice but there is no need to book any experience, it's a complete waste of money.

Visit carried out on October 1st in the afternoon. More of the type to encourage businesses on Google but this time unfortunately our experience was tarnished by the attitude of our hostess. There were five of us who shared the same feeling: she clearly seemed to lack enthusiasm to show us around. This affected the quality of the visit, which is a real shame for such an interesting setting.
