Bordeaux and the Gironde are a dream for sportspeople as well as nature, relaxation and leisure enthusiasts.

This department has an exceptional natural heritage. 

The Ocean and the legendary surf spot of Lacanau, the Mecca of European surfing where, each year, the surfing World Cup is organised.  

Along the coast and through Bordeaux and its metropolis, is a cyclist’s playground with a thousand kilometres of dedicated cycle paths, including the famous Bordeaux-Lacanau or Créon which was the first bike resort in France. 

Canoeing and kayaking can be practiced on many rivers, while the lakes and the Bay of Arcachon are the domain of sailing, jet skiing and water skiing. 

Twice a year in the commune of Vayres, the sportiest or the bravest, can ride the Mascaret (or river tide). The Mascaret is a natural phenomenon that occurs in rivers estuaries at times of high tide.  A sudden elevation of the water, due to the strong ocean tide, overpowers the natural flow of the river or estuary creating a ‘bore’ – takes place in France in the Gironde estuary and the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers.

The Gironde, with its many forests estates as well as the Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park is a paradise for hunters, hikers and cyclists. 

Finally, this southwest land is at the confluence of many sports, with two main disciplines: rugby and the football, the region is home to some great teams. Thirteen golf courses - Golf de Méjanne, Golf des Graves et du Sauternais, Golf de Bordeaux-Cameyrac, Golf de Teynac, Golf international d’Arcachon, Golf de Pessac, Golf de Gujan-Mestras, Golf de Bordeaux-Lac, Golf des Aiguilles Vertes, Golf Bordelais, Golf de Margaux, Golf du Médoc, Golf International de Lacanau, allow yourself the time to try as many of the courses as you can.
