    • The bastide of Créon, of English origin, is a jewel of the architectural heritage of the Gironde. It bears witness to a rich history and an urban planning characteristic of the bastides.

      A bit of history

Founded in 1315 by Amaury III de Craon, Seneschal of Guyenne for the King of England Edward II, the bastide of Créon is one of the last bastide towns in Guyenne. Its grid plan, with a central square surrounded by arcades, is typical of this type of urban planning. The bastide played an important role in the region, notably as the seat of the great Royal Provost of Entre-deux-Mers until the Revolution.

What to see, what to do in Créon?

      • Discover the history of the bastides, an excellent example of medieval urban planning.
      • Stroll through the narrow streets and lively squares.
      • Visit the historic monuments, especially the Notre-Dame church which is worth the detour.
      • Enjoy nature in the surroundings of Créon for beautiful walks and hikes on foot and by bike thanks to a remarkable network of cycle paths.

In short, the bastide of Créon is an ideal destination for those who wish to discover the heritage of the Gironde and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a medieval bastide.

. Créon is a small town known mainly for its cycle path and bike station. The water point and the toilets near the tourist office have been less and less maintained and then the toilets have been permanently removed since this winter. With cyclist traffic increasing in summer on the Roger Lapebie trail, no toilets are available between La Sauve and Bordeaux. Fortunately there is still a water point. No wonder some people relieve themselves in nature and on the sides of the trail!
