A story of generations
Today, it is the 4th generation that runs the Maison du Berneuilh in Arbis with 80 hectares of vines.
Its Vieilles Vignes, its white grape varieties, are Muscadelles and Sémillons planted at the beginning of the last century. Unmodified grape varieties which give its character and particular flavor to the white wine vinified in the cellars, whether Entre-deux-Mers, Haut Benauge or Moelleux.
The Red grape varieties are not to be outdone: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a hint of Cabernet Franc come together wonderfully to offer wines for aging and long aging vinified in the old-fashioned way, taking the time, for at least 5 years !
A land
The 80 hectares are located in the heart of Entre-deux-Mers (Arbis and Saint-Pierre-de-Bat) just after the first Côtes de Bordeaux and Loupiac.
The geographical location between the Garonne and the Dordogne guarantees a microclimate offering sun and humidity.
The Château de Benauge, dating from the Middle Ages, watches over this land steeped in history, and has enabled the establishment of its own appellation: Haut Benauge.
15 hectares of old vines (planted before 1950) for the White : Muscadelle, Sémillon and Sauvignon, unmodified grape varieties, which give such a particular flavor to our wines ; 5 hectares of young Sauvignon Blanc and Gris.
60 hectares of red grape varieties shared between Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a few rows of Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
All cultivated using high environmental value (HVE) sustainable agriculture in order to find the right balance between fauna, flora, culture, nature, the future, biodiversity, health and yields !
Wines
La Maison du Berneuilh vinifies in the old-fashioned way, a legacy of the past, and lets the wine take on its aromas naturally.
It is a long process, at least 5 years of resting of the lees, in order to extract a wine to keep from each vintage.
