    • Among the riches of the Dordogne valley, halfway between the Gironde estuary and the Périgord Noir region, nestles a territory, that of “Castillon Pujols”. Over the centuries, men and women have made their mark their mark on the local history of this region, of France and even elsewhere... You will find among the most illustrious Eleanor of Aquitaine, Queen of France then of England and mother of the renowned Richard the Lionheart, Michel de Montaigne and his famous Essays , or even Léo Drouyn, who thanks to his drawings and engravings, immortalized the monuments of our region.

From idle strolls to hiking escapades, the enchantment here is everywhere! You can discover villages perched on hillsides or on the edge of the Dordogne. That of Gensac will captivate your curiosity, in particular thanks to its legend of the knight Pardaillan. The numerous vineyards running from valley to valley then stretching over the plateaus of the hillsides as well as the roads along the Dordogne following the route of old towpaths, leading to a few bars, guinguette restaurants along the river, are as many walks and discoveries to delight the eyes and taste buds. And the Dordogne!... Majestic, calm, relaxing, inspiring for pleasant canoe trips that you can rent in Pessac-sur-Dordogne.

The festivities are also there, especially in the heart of summer, diverse and varied, including in the evening the gourmet markets and their large tables set up in the village squares and the presence of local producers offering a wide choice of products to eat. Regulars know that you have to carry your cutlery! Come and enjoy the gastronomy and its local traditions such as lamprey fishing, pibales, grilled vine shoots or vines. And let's not forget the gold of the region, the wine! At the crossroads of two major French vineyards, Bordeaux and Bergerac, the region produces renowned wines. Bordeaux, Castillon and Sainte Foy Côtes de Bordeaux, Montravel; reds, whites, dry, sweet, rosé and crémants make the glasses dance around the many convivial moments.

A local child and fervent defender of the art of living well, Montaigne, at least his spirit, awaits you in his tower, the place where he spent most of his time devoted to his literary and philosophical works. Maxims and quotes engraved on the beams of the building will invite you to the wisdom of his thoughts. It was on horseback that he loved to travel the countryside to appreciate, already at that time, all the splendor and diversity. From wide open spaces to wooded areas dotted with clearings and small streams, these preserved landscapes can today be explored on foot thanks to the numerous hiking trails.

From village to village, you can also observe the numerous Romanesque churches which appear like architectural jewels, soothing and reassuring. Sometimes equipped with "ballets", small squares sheltered by an awning, which add a charming touch to these historic buildings. One of them in Ste Colombe, dating from the 12th century, gives you the possibility of accessing its bell tower from where you will appreciate the panoramic view.

It is also here that a part of the history of France was played out one day in July 1453 with the defeat of the English occupying Aquitaine soil since the marriage of Eleanor in 1152 with Henri Plantagenêt, then future king of England. The so-called Hundred Years' War finally ended with the death of the English General Talbot during a terrible battle at the foot of the formerly fortified town of Castillon-la-Bataille. A magnificent nighttime show tells the story of this great epic and has been enchanting audiences for more than 46 years, carried away by the staging of the event. The Battle of Castillon is replayed every year from mid-July until the end of August thanks to the participation of many volunteers!

Friends and visitors tell us: "What a beautiful region!". Come discover the territory of Castillon Pujols and let yourself be enchanted by its landscapes, its history and its conviviality.

Documents available but incompetent staff...for the summer I suppose! The hostess didn't even know how to tell us about a building in the town itself, located 800m from the tourist office, she didn't even know where it was!!
